Crews arrived within three minutes to find a single-storey brick house fully engulfed in flames. Approximately 40 firefighters took about one hour to control the blaze.

- One resident, later confirmed by Victoria Police to be a child, was found deceased inside the home by firefighters.

Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad are investigating a separate incident in Bacchus Marsh, north-west of Melbourne. Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a property on Lidgett Street at approximately 9 PM on Thursday.
Upon arrival, police located a 57-year-old man outside the property with significant burns. Ambulance Victoria confirmed the man was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition with upper body injuries.
Investigation Status
Detectives suspect the man's injuries were sustained during an assault. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. A forensic team was present at the scene on Friday morning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Neighbour Accounts
"He was yelling about being on fire."
Neighbour Kate Spalding reported hearing yelling and screaming prior to coming outside. Another neighbour, Philip Lepoidevin, stated he observed the man on fire and attempting to extinguish himself on the ground. Mr. Lepoidevin recounted hearing the man yell about being on fire and confirmed that he and another neighbour contacted Triple Zero (000).
