Taylor Swift Unveils "Opalite" Music Video Featuring Star-Studded Cameos
Taylor Swift has released the music video for "Opalite," the second single from her album "The Life of a Showgirl." The video, which features several celebrity cameos including guests from "The Graham Norton Show," premiered exclusively on Spotify and Apple Music, with a YouTube release scheduled for February 8.
Swift stated on X that the concept for the video originated from a lighthearted joke made by Domhnall Gleeson during their appearance on "The Graham Norton Show." She expressed admiration for the other guests and their willingness to participate.
A Quirky '90s-Inspired Narrative
The video begins with a '90s-style advertisement for a fictional cleaning spray called Opalite. Swift's character then unboxes a pet rock, and the video humorously depicts their friendship.
The music video is packed with notable cameos. These include Greta Lee as a singer-songwriter, Jodie Turner-Smith as an exercise show host, and Domhnall Gleeson in a peculiar relationship with a pet cactus.
In the narrative, Gleeson's character uses the fictional Opalite spray, which magically causes Swift to appear. The two characters then begin a relationship, with Lewis Capaldi making an appearance as a photographer documenting their journey.
The video also features Graham Norton as an Opalite salesman. It concludes with Swift and Gleeson performing in a dance competition, followed by a meta moment in the credits referencing "The Graham Norton Show" guests.
"Opalite" Success & Personal Connection
"Opalite" debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has remained a high-performing single from "The Life of a Showgirl."
Swift previously mentioned that "Opalite" is her fiancé Travis Kelce's favorite song, explaining that the title refers to a man-made opal, a metaphor for happiness being man-made, and connecting it to Kelce's birthstone.
"The Life of a Showgirl" Album Triumphs
Swift's album, "The Life of a Showgirl," released in October, sold an impressive 2.7 million copies on its first day. It has since surpassed Adele's "25" as the most-consumed album in Billboard 200 history. The lead single from the album, "The Fate of Ophelia," became Swift's 13th No. 1 single on the Hot 100.
