European leaders have communicated reservations regarding a United States proposal aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. During the G20 summit in South Africa, a joint statement described the draft plan as "a basis which will require additional work."
The statement acknowledged that the plan "includes important elements that will be essential for a just and lasting peace" but highlighted specific concerns related to national borders and potential limitations on Ukraine's armed forces.
These expressions of concern follow remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who indicated that Kyiv faces "one of the most difficult moments in our history" amid pressure to consider the plan. Reports suggest that leaked details of the proposal are perceived as favorable to Moscow.
US President Donald Trump has set a deadline of November 27 for Ukraine to accept the 28-point framework. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the plan could serve as a "basis" for a potential settlement.
