Block's Open Source Head Warns Against AI Monopoly, Champions Open Foundation

Manik Surtani, Block's Head of Open Source, has voiced concerns regarding artificial intelligence, specifically warning against it becoming controlled by a limited number of companies.

Surtani stated that such a monopoly could be easily abused.

Surtani facilitated a collaboration between OpenAI and Anthropic, two leading AI laboratories, to create an an open foundation for agentic AI.

The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF)

The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) was established under the Linux Foundation. It launched with 60 participating companies, a number which has since increased to 130. Member organizations include Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Cloudflare, and Bloomberg as platinum-tier members, with Chinese tech giant Alibaba also joining.
