Swimmer's Body Recovered from Derwent River After Search Operation
NEW NORFOLK, TASMANIA — The body of a male swimmer was recovered from the Derwent River at New Norfolk on Monday evening, following a search operation.
The individual went missing shortly after 7 PM while swimming with friends off a pontoon near the New Norfolk Esplanade.
Emergency services, including marine police, a rescue helicopter, and police divers, launched a major search operation.
The body was located in the water shortly after 9:40 PM.
Police expressed gratitude to members of the public who assisted at the scene and conveyed their thoughts to the man's family and loved ones. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
