Law enforcement located Geyser on Sunday at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois, approximately 170 miles south of Madison. According to police statements, Geyser initially provided a false identity before instructing officers to "just Google" her name, adding that she had "done something really bad." She and an accompanying 42-year-old male were detained after her identity was confirmed as a wanted individual from Wisconsin. The male companion was charged with trespassing and obstructing identification.
Background of the Case
The incident refers to a 2014 event where Geyser, then 12, stabbed a classmate 19 times. The attack was reportedly carried out to appease the online character known as Slender Man. Her accomplice, Anissa Weier, also 12 at the time, was present and encouraged the assault. The victim, Payton Leutner, survived the attack after being discovered by a cyclist.
Legal Outcomes
Geyser was tried as an adult, pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional homicide, and received a sentence of 40 years in a mental health facility in 2018. She was granted conditional release under supervision to the group home in July. Weier was charged with attempted murder, sentenced to 25 years in a psychiatric hospital, and subsequently released in 2021.
